Curated along the lines of Darwin’s walk of light and shadow which defined his famous ‘Theory of Evolution’, we were inspired to create your morning constitutional— a walk through dappled sunlight and evergreen trees in the wooded forest that surrounds the estate.
A fresh, warm, and comforting breakfast welcomes you on your return.
In 1840, Henry Ramsay was appointed Assistant Commissioner of Kumaon. A man keenly observant and sagacious, of cool clear judgment and strong will, tempered by Scotch, but with a single-hearted desire for the well-being and prosperity of the people over whom he was set in authority. He was trusted alike by them and by his official superiors. This road is in tribute to the grand old man of Kumaon!
On a beautiful morning of your choice, you can go to Mayolikhan. Amble along on old bridle paths through the forest, on one of the most beautiful trails in the Binsar forest. The Mayolikhan trail meanders through cedars and oaks, through little waterfalls and rocky outcrops, and eventually terminates in a quiet hidden village, almost lost in time. It couldn’t be more picturesque. We are happy to organize a picnic for you in these quaint sylvan surroundings.
This is in reverence to Brian Houghton Hodgson, who served as Assistant Commissioner of Kumaon in the early 19th century and who’s keen knowledge and ornithological interest helped identify a huge variety of native birds in this Himalayan region.
Walk through the forest in gentle pursuit of the nearly 179 different species of birds found here, specific to the forests of Binsar.
